Hyvää Uutta Vuotta! Happy New Year!

Happy new year 2009 everyone! May it be even better than 2008!

After T gets home from work we will head out to her friend CJ's to spend the new years eve with her and her family and few friends. Tomorrow night we are going to her cousin's to have dinner with her and watch some Penn State football. On Friday we might be going shopping with her sisters or it might happen on Saturday. Saturday morning our new cleaning lady is coming for the first time and then the rest of the weekend will be spent on watching football. The Eagles are on at 4:30pm on Sunday...

Hope everyone is having fun tonight!

I'm getting frustrated

I'm getting frustrated with my Doctor. I have left messages to her secretary and they have not called back. It has been awhile since my bone scan and I would like to know if it showed anything. I'm just glad that I don't have anything life threatening because the way they treat their patience, as far as letting them know what's up with them, I would be dead by now... A simple phone call saying the Doctor will contact me soon would go a long way. Is that too much to ask? Getting my results apparently is.

Anyway...christmas is over and it's back to reality, for some at least. I'm still off since the office is closed this week so I am home doing nothing of importance. Yesterday I did manage to go to the farmers market and make dinner for us and do 1 load of laundry after playing on my computer, watching TV and playing guitar hero. Yes, I got a guitar hero from my secret Santa JoeAnn! It's awesome.

On christmas eve I cleaned a little, made korvapuusti/cinnamon buns and chilled while T was at work. After she came home, she packed a bag and then it was gift time. I got tickets to see Teemu Selänne and Anaheim Ducks at the Madison Square Garden vs. Rangers in January which I asked for. I want to see him play before he retires...right now he's hurt though so I'm hoping he will be back before then. But it's a hockey game so it will be fun! And I will wear my Finland jersey to the game to represent. For christmas I also got a Mets Jersey and an Eagles jersey. A girl can never have enough jerseys! I wore my new Eagles jersey on sunday and think I should wear it again next sunday since the Eagles beat the cowgirls and it seemed to have brought good luck. Baseball season starts in April and now I have options. I hope we will go to few games during the summer. I also got UGG slippers, they are so comfy and soft! Our downstairs floor is made from wood and since we're at ground level it's cold so I needed those! They're awesome too. I also got the Gilmore Girls DVD that was given to me the day before and Winnie the Pooh, Hoops&YoYo coffee mug, a bunch of fuzzy socks which I needed for my foot, a hair straightener and a table calendar with cute animal babies in it! It was a great christmas eve and only the beginning!

We also got gift from Finland addressed to both of us...Now I don't understand the total lack of trust that the Finns have in me, namely my mom and Elviira! My mom told me that if their present had been here before christmas I would have opened it before the 24th anyway so she gave Arttu's gifts to him early! And then when I opened the present from Elviira ON THE 24TH AS INSTRUCTED, I find ANOTHER layer of wrapping paper on it and a note asking if it was christmas eve yet! Now WTF?!?!?! I can be good...I WAS good! Not nice people...not nice!

After we opened our gifts we headed to upstate. T's brother's in-laws host a party every x-mas eve and that's where we ended up. We hang out with Carly who was so cute in her candy cane pyjama's. She was sitting on the floor with her cousins, singing and talking and yelling as only an 8 month old baby can. She is the cutest baby ever and so well behaving. She barely ever cries. And now that she's sitting and holding things and smiling and laughing, she is so much fun to be with!

After the party we went to T's moms and I helped her wrap gifts. I went to bed around midnight only to be waken up right after 6am to go to T's dad's house to see her little sisters open their presents. They got Wii Fit and Rock band for Wii among other things. I got subscription for National Geographic, which was on my list and a gift card to Gap. T got the first book of the Twilight series and a gift card to Barnes and Nobles, which is a book store. T also got a pen from her dad and she and her brothers got the state quarters from the last 10 years. Their dad collects coins so he had been collecting them for them for the past 10 years. Me, T and her brothers and their wives gave her dad a golf bag he had asked for and her step mom we gave perfume. For T's sisters we gave the American Idol for Wii and T gave them games and puzzles. We stayed there until 10 am, played a little rock band and then headed back to T's moms for breakfast and more presents.

We had decided between the 6 of us, me, T and her brothers and their wives to do secret Santa this year which meant that we drew a name from a hat and bought present(s) only for that person. I bought a present to Billy, Billy got Johnny, Johnny got Amanda, Amanda got T, T got JoeAnn and JoeAnn got me. I bought Billy a thermal long sleeve shirt and gloves for skiing from Spider as he's big on skiing and was asking stuff from Spider. I wasn't sure if that would be enough even though T said Billy would love his stuff so I got him a Jets tailgating chair as well. He was probably the happiest of all of us and we all got kick ass presents! As I said before, I got guitar hero and a music game for Wii and T got Wii Fit! We were really happy with our gifts. T's mom gave me a candle, lotions from the Body Shop and fuzzy socks. T's nana gave everybody money and my name was in the envelope together with Tiffany's which is curious because according to T the L word has never been mentioned to nana....I thought it was interesting.

After Johnny and JoeAnn left T went to take a shower at which point Judy wanted my help in the kitchen so I was helping her to male the apple sauce! We had spiked eggnog while we slaved in the kitchen, that's some great stuff! After all the food was done we left to go to Johnny and JoeAnn's. We had a great dinner, there was about 20 of us and after dinner it was time to open some more presents. I got a little travel bag from T's aunt, a scentener thingy from her uncle and we got the present of the year from her cousin Erin! It was a picture of her and her boyfriend Scott dressed as elfs! Or is that how they always look....hhmmmmm ;-)

Carly once again was the Belle of the ball getting the most presents as in almost every place. We took some cute pictures of her, one of which is on T's blog right now where she sits in a box. I will post some pictures soon. I gave Carly a stuffed Piglet or Nasu in Finnish and T bought her this cute fake fur winter overall. We did not go crazy on her gifts mainly because she won't remember this christmas. We also got Santa Claus to write a letter for her, it was waiting for her when she came home from Jamaica few days before x-mas.

It was a great x-mas but we were happy to get back home too. We came home a day earlier than we originally thought, in the evening of 25th. T's mom was working the 26th so we decided to come home and chill with the cats, put our Wii's in place and not having to go anywhere unless we wanted to. On the 26th T thought it would be a good idea to go to the mall as it's one of the major shopping days in this country. We lasted about 30 minutes before we were both done with people. TOO MANY PEOPLE! Afterwards we went to Red Lobster to eat and then to Target to check for games for our Wii. T bought 2 but after trying them we were not happy. We might try to exchange them later on...

That was our x-mas. Good times!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone...or happy holidays if you're not celebrating christmas...

I hope T comes home soon as Bailey just told me she wants to open presents! Right now she's running after an old toy looking all pathetic and meowing...Bailey is anxious to start celebrating christmas.

I'm watching the final season of Gilmore Girls...I got the DVD set from T yesterday. It's awesome! Christopher and Lorelai together though...not feeling it!

I'm trying to do a last bit of relaxing before the running around starts. I'll watch few more episodes of GiGi, then clean, pack and then wait for T to come home. Then it will be present time! YAY!

Enjoy the holiday people!

2 days till christmas!!!

I was supposed to work today, the last day before x-mas but when I got this morning they were saying on TV that it was so cold outside that you shouldn't go outside unless you absolutely have to so I decided to stay in. With my foot I'm so slow that going outside and walking to the bus stop and then waiting for the train outside for 20 minutes did not sound like something I absolutely wanted to do so I put my jacket back to the closet and sat back and watched some TV. I was all ready to go, my lunch was packed, my coffee in the thermos and everything but nope, not happening. So I've been home trying to relax. It feels funny not having anything to do. I have no chores I absolutely have to do, I have no homework, I wrapped the gifts, I have pork chops out so I can cook tonight but other than that, I don't have to do anything. Just relax. And I feel guilty about it. I even said to T that I don't know how to relax and feel could about it. And she told me to relax and do nothing. So I have the permission to relax (not that I need a permission to relax) but I just can't let go. It's weird. And after I got up for the second time I was looking around thinking I should maybe try to go to work, even if it was just for few hours. I hope I can do this better tomorrow. At least I'm not supposed to be anywhere else tomorrow so maybe. I want to bake korvapuusti/cinnamon buns tomorrow so T is taking me to the grocery store after she gets home for ingredients. That's about it for my plans.

On wednesday after she gets home we'll exchange our gifts and head up to her moms. We haven't opened our gifts, all though I got one in advance because we just bought it together yesterday. I have these gore tex boots (or had) that were great in rain, snow, ice and all kinds of weather. They were a little bit used and T did not like them at all. On saturday at the mall she thought I had stepped on something when in reality it was the bottom of my shoe coming off...she was like this is it, I'm buying you new boots for x-mas and then I'm throwing those out! So we bought me boots yesterday and I got to keep them because of the weather...So I gave her one of her stocking stuffers. It was a Dunkin Donuts gift card that I made myself. On their website, if you don't like the models they have you can use your own picture. I put a picture of Carly wearing her Winnie the Pooh outfit on it! It was the cutest picture ever and I just couldn't past the opportunity of making the card with that picture! She loved it! I of course made myself the same card. I got it over a month ago and it has been SO DIFFICULT not to use it before I gave her hers, especially since we usually go to DD together and I couldn't use it while she was with me. Or chance it that someone there saw my card and then asked me about it while she was with me. But the secret is out so now I can use it.

On saturday night we met up with 5 of T's friends for a little birthday/x-mas party at a restaurant called the Melting Pot. Since coming to the US I have been taken to some super awesome restaurants and this was definitely one of them. It's a fondue restaurant where you get to choose from different kinds of cheeses and they bring you veggies to dip in it. Then you get to choose your meat selection and what kind of cooking style you want to use, meaning what combination of spices etc you want in the pot. The pot is in front of you and you get to "cook" your meal at your table. Put the meat on a stick, put it in the pot for 1,5 -2 minutes and then eat it. They give you potatoes and veggies to cook too and then they top it off with a pot of chocolate and you can dip strawberries, bananas, marshmallows, cake, cheesecake and rice krispy treats in the chocolate. Even I had some chocolate even though it was dark. Don't really care for chocolate and even less for dark chocolate. It was really good, a bit expensive but soooo good! We had good time and will get together again for new years eve.

We were also able to finish the x-mas shopping and now we're waiting for wednesday so that the gifts can be opened! I talked with my brother today and he was thanking me for the gifts we sent. Best gifts ever I hear...hehe. I specifically told my mom NOT to open anything before x-mas so she clearly was not listening to my instructions! You all saw my instructions HERE on my blog...Unlike me who still hasn't opened Elviira's gift as instructed! I'm a good girl..

Anyway, that's about it for now. I need to go check out the mail box and see if we got any mail and/or packages!

Later and merry 22nd!

The best girlfriend EVER!

T had a hair appointment this morning and left me in bed. When she came back she had a Dunkin Donuts coffee, donuts and bagels with her! She's the awesomest! And the funny thing is, I was thinking about calling her and asking her to bring some...Didn't have to because she read my mind! Best breakfast ever!

Yesterday was bad...it usually takes about 30 minutes for her to get home, yesterday it was over 2 hours! We had plans to go to the mall but when she got home it was so bad and still snowing/sleeting that we decided to stay local and go for dinner and do some shopping at Target. When we were done it was 8 o'clock and the weather had cleared a little so we decided to head to the mall! Figured the weather would probably make people stay at home so it would be easier and quicker. The mall was manageable but T was disorganized and couldn't do her stuff (meaning she couldn't find MY presents) so we bought presents to other people. We were home a little before 10:30, I wrapped some presents, T made her list of things she still needs to get and we might just have another go today.

T's cousin's cleaning lady just left and we will try her on the 3rd. She seems nice and she had the courtesy of calling that she was gonna be late so it was already a better start.

4 days till Christmas!!!

Let it snow let it snow let it snow...

It's snowing!!! YES! Finally. I have been missing snow. I hope it will last until christmas. I want white christmas...It feels weird seeing christmas trees being transported in +20 degree C weather as we saw on monday but now it looks more like December and x-mas! Only thing is...they don't know how to drive in this weather. Today is probably gonna be a bad accident day. It's like UK, people just panic on the roads when it's snowing. When I was in Wales, when it snowed, the schools closed and people got a snow day because they just couldn't cope. Everything stopped. Here. people do move around but there are some BAAAAAD drivers...Anyway...

We are supposed to go x-mas shopping tonight after T gets off from work. I'm supposed to take a bus to the mall and meet her there. We'll see how it goes when it's time to go. She still needs to do shopping, I have Carly and her mom that i need to get presents for and then I'll be done. And I guess my boss too. I gave Aditi a Hoops and Yoyo coffee travel mug which speaks and she loved it. I have one and it's all I use these days.

My classes and all related stuff are done now. Wednesday was my last day of classes and yesterday I handed in my final assignment. I'm free! For 5 weeks anyway.

The semester...

is almost over! I had my final exam today and all that is left is one more class tomorrow and my reviews and then I'm done! WOO HOO!

My NJ Finns made it to the final on fantasy football! YES! Sorry Dre... I'll be playing Husker Heaven this week. We only played each other once during the regular season and he beat me badly! I hope to get my revenge this week!

Thank You Saara for the chocolate and Salmiakki! I'll send you your salad dressing sometime this week.

Marianne. X-mas is on the 24th, do NOT open your present before then. Just because there was no note saying do-not-open-before-christmas, doesn't mean it's acceptable to do so! That's for you El Viiru! You and Elviira will have second x-mas is March, I was too cheap to send the other stuff.

Marja.

T is having a coaching class right now downstairs so I'm upstairs blogging, watching TV and wrapping presents.I'm yet to wrap any of them...better get to it soon, but before that, we need to talk about my favorite subject, the american/east coast/NJ weather! We had our Global Ed. holiday party yesterday...in a almost 20 degree C weather! We had to have the A/C on for god's sakes! Who spends a CHRISTMAS party in a summery/springy weather?!?!?! I did not feel x-masy at all. But wait, the story isn't over! This morning we woke up to rain and about 5 degree C temperatures. When I left for work at 10am it was hailing (sato rakeita) and when I got to work, it was SNOWING!!! the day before you could have worn shorts and today every possible solid/liquid material was falling from the sky! SERIOUSLY?!?!? Tomorrow is supposed to be the same and ice on top of that. Can't wait! Fortunately I can stay in bed for as long as I want to because my class starts at 8pm. I will get off bed before noon, I promise!

Btw...It's weird wishing people happy holidays. In Finland we always wish merry x-mas and don't even think about people who might celebrate other holidays. You have to be so politically correct here. Take everyone's religion into consideration. We didn't have office christmas party, it was a holiday party. You see these signs for happy holidays...it's weird. I don't think I even knew/know anyone in Finland who is Jewish...I think all our african students in TAMK were christian and celebrated x-mas. Not sure what the chinese celebrated. It's just weird. But me, I celebrate x-mas so if you wanna wish me merry or happy something, wish me merry x-mas!

More later. Öitä!

Pictures

T and Sox's stockings. Yes, the cats have stockings too!
Bailey and mine stockings.

Eagles x-mas decorations. T is crazy about her Eagles!

All of our stockings together. And Sox having a little snack.

Our x-mas tree. The picture is little fuzzy because I took it without the flash. I wanted to show the pretty lights and it was too bright with the flash...Pretty tree dontcha think?

The weekend

It's been a long weekend but finally we are home and sort of relaxing. Looks like the NJ Finns are finally on track to beat the Virginia Sammy's but it's still on-going match so...keep your fingers crossed!

On Thursday I had my bone scan from which I should get some results next week. On Friday I finally was able to go to the post office and sent the gifts so Finland is now covered. Friday night the cleaning lady was scheduled to come at 6pm. T thought it would be a good idea for her to come here a little earlier since it took them 3 hours the last time and I was home anyway so she could start earlier, finish sooner and we could get our home back sooner than 11:30 like the last time...remember last time how she got lost, could NOT listen to directions, did not know how to spell T's last name to get through the gate...yeah, same thing this time around. T called her on Friday to ask if she was still coming because she had not called. She said she was gonna be a little late cuz her son needed a ride after work, should be here around 7...T tells me to be on the look-out for her. T comes home around 7 and the woman is nowhere to be seen(or heard). It's 7:20 when T calls her and she was outside. That was the final call, if she had been far we would have told her to not to come. First impression...second impression...NOT GOOD! We told her to focus on the floor because last time the couches were not moved and there was a dust bunny the size of NJ state behind the bar...cat hair is accumulating as we speak so if we have someone come to clean we really need them to also REMOVE the cat hair...

We left to do some grocery shopping and then on our way home we decided to stop by at Target to check out their x-mas tree selection. We decided on a fake tree even though it's something that I haven't had before since we have he cats and they apparently love x-mas trees so much that they wanna climb them and that's not good with 2 15 pound/8kg cats...not to mention because of the lights and the ornaments. So we got our tree and on our way home the cleaner calls that they are almost ready. That was only 2 hours later...We were not happy with them and just the fact that they were always late, no follow-up what so ever and they weren't all that awesome to begin with...we are gonna try someone else. But we now have our tree up and we love it. It had colored lights on it, we used T's ornaments, bought some red and silver tinsel and Voila! We have our tree! Bailey and Sox love it too. How do I know this you ask? Because Friday night after we went to bed I heard a cat gagging, went to see what was going on, saw puke upstairs on the carpet, saw puke downstairs and on Saturday morning T found some more puke next to the tree! Bailey had been eating the pine needles and wasn't feeling too fresh afterwards...then this morning there presents were all over the living room floor and the tree skirt was not under the tree anymore. One day we're gonna come home and the tree is gonna be down...

We also bought stocking holders and we now have our stockings in place too! I love the stocking tradition. And T buys the best stocking stuffers!

On Saturday we headed to Dunkin Donuts in the morning, went to do the rest of our grocery shopping and then came home. We showered and changed and left to see T's mom quickly before going to see T's sister Victoria in her dance studio's adaptation of the "Nutcracker". Her brother Johnny and his wife JoeAnn were there too as was her dad, his wife and T's other sister Olivia. Victoria's part took maybe a minute if either that but she was great. We were laughing because as she was tap dancing she was yelling to the girl next to her while smiling. I doubt none of the dancers will make it big...but it was good fun and Victoria personally invited us to see it so of course we had to go!

After the show we went to T's mom's house and were thinking about going to the mall to do some x-mas shopping. Her mom wasn't in the mood so we ordered some Chinese and went to check out few stores in Woodbury Commons. Her mom's yard and the street leading to her house look like a bomb hit it! Last week's ice storm really hit it hard. Some house's in the area are still without power and T's friend Chris was evacuated because they don't know when the power will be restored. There were trees and branches everywhere and you were lucky to get through the street to her mom's house.

This morning we went to help her cousin Celeste to put her dining room table together. It had a glass top that she wasn't able to lift by herself. Afterwards she took us to IHOP, the international house of pancakes for breakfast. We came home around 1:30 and have been doing some cooking and surfing and watching football since. My NJ Finns are playing for the place in the final and T's Paksut Kissat are playing for 5th place. It's looking good for me and PK is not out just yet. She still has 6 players left, 2 today and then 4 tomorrow...All I really need is for Terrell Owens to suck tonight, maybe shed few tears while he's at it and I should be through to the finals. But I won't announce it just yet!

I have one more week to go in school and then the semester is over! We have our Global Ed. holiday party tomorrow, I have a mock panel tomorrow night, Eagles are playing tomorrow night, exam on Tuesday and a presentation on Wednesday and then it's off to Christmas holiday. Almost. Few more days of work too.

Happy December!

I'm radiating

yeah, I said it! I'm so radiating I could be seen from the space! You ever seen the pictures from space during the night where you can see the big metropolitans just light up the sky? And Sahara and places like that are totally black? I had the first phase of my bone scan few hours ago and I was following the picture from the screen. My left foot would definitely be the East Coast of USA and my right foot would be Sahara...my left foot was lighting up the screen! I'm home now, about to leave for the next phase of the scanning. They told me to drink lots of fluids and eat in between and since the hospital is 5 minute bus ride away from home, I decided to come home for the time in-between. After that I'm going to the post Office and play Santa's helper!
There are some people who will have continuing x-mas in March when we come to Finland. Packages would be too heavy and/or big so we decided to bring them with us in March instead!
Merry bone scanning! I'm off to radiate some more!

What do you write about...

when you have absolutely nothing of importance to say? The Weather of course! I'm telling you, it is CRAZY here! One day it's freezing beyond belief, the next it's 15 degrees C! Like today...it's raining but you could wear shorts if you wanted to. 2 days ago it was really cold, I was bundled up like the Michelin man...yesterday it was warmer and today it's really summerish! We checked the forecast yesterday so I knew that it was gonna be warm...still I put on a warm winter jacket, winter boot etc...only to open the garage door and see that it was raining. My winter boot isn't one of those that you wear in rain so I had to change into a sneaker. My boot boot isn't one for rain either so I had to wrap my foot in a plastic bag. I was a little bit late leaving so I had a little bit of an exercise this morning walking fast to the bus stop...my fast and actual fast don't necessarily mean the same thing but I was fast in boot wearing community!

I was supposed to send the x-mas presents to Finland today but I will most likely do it either tomorrow (depending on how the test goes tomorrow and how long it takes) or on Friday. I have nothing to do on Friday so it might be the better option. So if you think you have been a good girl or a boy and think Santa will send you presents, you might expect something in the mail. Santa might be a bit busy delivering these things so he might take until after x-mas. I don't know when exactly the last day of sending stuff to Europe is so until they get there, we won't know for sure.

I still have 3 more classes this semester and then the semester is done. I feel 3 A's coming on but you never know. At the beginning of the semester in my Geos class we were told all kinds of things that can bring the grade down and it all sounded so strict. As the semester has advanced, I've gotten 9/10 and 10/10 from my questions and reviews...I have not put too much thought or energy into doing these so I have been surprised how easy it is...I have a mock panel review on Monday and then I'll be wiser as to how the class went. On Tuesday I will have my lone final exam. We were given 8 questions, he's gonna choose 6 for the exam and we will answer to 4 of them. Simple enough. I'll take my book to the hospital tomorrow and study. I finished my paper for this class yesterday during the class and now am waiting for the grade. Next Wednesday is my final health class and I'll present one of my papers I wrote for this class. And then onto a 2 week vacation when I'll be hanging out with the cats, watching TV and you know, be lazy!

But before that, we need to go buy a x-mas tree, decorate it and the house, go see T's sister in nutcracker, go see the x-mas tree in NYC, do some more x-mas shopping, see CJ and Steph and celebrate Christmas!

I'm off to eating my pathetic little salad lunch...I wanted to go get some soup but it's raining and I'm made of sugar so...what can you do?

Later peeps!

Testing testing one two three...

I will have more testing done on my foot. This will happen on this coming Thursday at 9am. They told me I'll be injected with the dye at 9, can go home for few hours after that and then come back for the scan about 2 or 3 hours later. It's gonna happen close to our home so I probably can go home but I will see how I feel. I will need to check the bus schedule if it's worth it. I can always read for my exam which is next week or do some other homework...or just read a book or do absolutely nothing at all. I have a feeling I won't have the energy to focus on homework and stuff.

I hope third time's the charm...

Back to reality

Thanksgiving is over and it's back to reality now. I'm back to school for few more weeks and T is back at work. Then it's 5 weeks off which I hope to work a bit more. Maybe be able to save some money for our trip to Finland and pay the rent.

Despite us trying SO HARD, we did not make it to midnight madness on thanksgiving. JoeAnn was hungover, me and T were kinda blah and so was Erin. Amanda talked a great game about going to BestBuy at 3am but buckled. A mother of a 7-month old needs her sleep! We had every intention of going but the Eagles were on at 8:15 and we had to go to Billy's to watch it because T's mom didn't have the particular channel it was on...We had every intention of going even though JoeAnn called midway through the game and said she was not able to make it. We had every intention of going as Erin had a handicap sticker for her car so that we could drive there and get parking on handicap place BUT...we did a "quick" drive by, the traffic was terrible so we decided to go park at T's moms and then walk. Yeah...we walked alright! To upstairs and bed! LOL!

I had my Doctor's appointment the Friday after and she still couldn't figure out what's going on. So I'm having more testing done. She said I could have something called "regional complex pain syndrome" which basically means when MRI and X-rays don't show anything and you don't heal and the Docs don't know what you have, that's what they call it. So I will have more testing done.

It was fun seeing her family and spend a holiday with them but there's something to be said about being at home. We have slowly turned this place home, getting our own stuff together and we have decorated etc so that this place looks like us. It's great coming home and lay on the couch, get your feet up and watch some TV. It's great when the cats come over and welcome you home. It just feels like home and it's mostly because T is here.
I still have 1 paper to write for school, one final exam which won't be terrible since we have the questions and answers and one more homework for my Monday's class. Then I'll be done. The school is closed from the 25th until the end of December and my boss isn't working on the week of x-mas so I guess I'm having a 2 week vacation. Great except T is working during that time and I want to work to get rent money. I guess I will study for my comprehensive exam is March...YEAH, right! I'll try but...
T went to the Eagles game today so I'm home alone right now. Her sister-in-law Amanda and Amanda's dad and brother had tix to the Giant's-Eagles game and invited T t go with them...All of them are Giants fans and I guess they wanted an Eagles fan to abuse so T will be at the game today. She is bundled up like she was going to the frozen tundra. Forecast says +few degrees C, snow/rain and possible wind gusts up to 50 km/h... I'll be watching from the comfort of our couch with the cats, make some guacamole and chill...T will be home around 5 I guess. Leaves me good time to write my paper.
I'm done with my x-mas shopping for the most part. T is done until I see something else I wanna get for her, I have my family done, all I need to do is send the presents...We're doing secret Santa with T's brothers and their better halves...which is not all that secret anymore. I got Billy and I already bought his present. JoeAnn got me and apparently the presents are awesome! Presents as in more than one! She told T and T told me they are great! I can't wait!No Idea what it is but it'll be awesome I'm sure! All I know is that it's not a handbag...I made sure people knew that wasn't for me! T, JoeAnn and Amanda were talking about handbags just before we drew the names so I told everybody $500 handbags were not for me!
We moved some furniture around yesterday to make room for a x-mas tree. We went through T's x-mas decorations also to see what we have. We brought some of them downstairs and decorated a little. We're probably gonna go get a tree next week. We decided on a fake tree which I've never had but with 2 cats who love the smell of outdoors we decided it's probably best to have a fake one so that they won't climb up to it. Or try.
We went to a x-mas party yesterday that our friend Oscar and his family threw. It was good times! Good food, good company...First one of the season. I have a work x-mas party tomorrow or is it next Monday and T has 2 parties next week. I'm ready for the actual x-mas though...It will be fun but I will miss my family. It'll be the third x-mas ever that I don't spend with my own family.

Thank You El Viiru!

For the Salmiakki! I got it yesterday and I have a bag with me at work today...I'm gonna enjoy every moment of it! It's too bad T doesn't like it but this way there's MORE FOR ME!!! I'm all about sharing but I gotta admit, it would be really hard to share my salmiakki with her, or with anyone else under these circumstances.I don't understand why USA can't have any? I think I could get it from the Finnish church in NYC but with my foot all fucked up I am not about to go to the city for Salmiakki shopping... and besides I have great friends and family members who are kind enough to supply the goods!

MMMM, this is SO GOOD!!!

Lots of snow!!!

In Finland I hear. We do not have any. Which I guess is a good thing with my boot and all but I would take snow over the rain! It started raining last night, rained all through the night, rained in the morning, took a little break around 9am and when it was time for me to leave for work, it started to pour. Awesome! The fashionable person that I am, I put a plastic bag around my foot, put the boot on and walked to the bus stop. Good times. You cannot pay for this type of fun! My jacket surprisingly held through all this, my backpack is little wet and my boot and sneaker are soaked. I'm drying them in front of the heater right now. I hope to be dry by 4:30.

I have my presentation about sustainability and recycling today. For once I was done wayyyy early, I did it last week. This is the class where the norm is to speak way longer than necessary so I told few of my classmates yesterday to be prepared! I will be talking for 2,5 hours.... I'm gonna do classic Marsha! They laughed. I feel good about the presentation and the paper, even though that's yet to be written. I will need to do some homework this weekend. Get on top of things. The semester is almost over, I have 3 more classes next semester and then...graduation! Kinda scary since G.W.B screwed up so badly and the economy is what it is. Will I find a job? Why would anyone hire a foreigner that needs a work visa when they could hire an American? Scary scary times...But I'll start worrying about it after x-mas.

Dis and Dat

I'm at work but not really working. I have yet to see my boss today and there was no work left in my box so I'm just chillin, surfing and doing homework. Well, the homework is also yet to be done but it is waiting for me...patiently. Like it has a choice!

I had my physical therapy yesterday. Last one that the insurance pays. My insurance covers up to $150 a year so if I really needed PT, I'd be screwed. They're doing the electric stimulation, some ultrasound and massaging it. Feels good in a weird way. Especially the electric stimulation. And the massage. The swelling is down on my foot and my ankle. The toe is still twice the side of the other one so I know not a lot of progress is being made. I have the boot I'm wearing and I'm really focusing on stepping well on my foot as to not aggravate the ankle so I think that's part of the swelling going down too. I have a Doctor's appointment the Friday after thanksgiving and I'm making a list of things I need to ask and comment about. I just really hope this will be figured out soon. The guessing game is getting kinda old.

I have another PT session next Wednesday and then I can come home afterwards. I don't have a class that day but I might work. We shall see since it's the day before thanksgiving. My professor thought no-one would show up for an 8 o'clock class that day so he put a "field trip" on the schedule. A lot of us is taking a "field trip" to see their families etc so I thought it was appropriate. My boss is not working that day but she might have stuff for me to do. I'm losing 8 hours of work on Thursday so I want to do those hours in if possible. If not then I'll just stay home. We will be going to T's moms on Thursday and stay there until at least Friday. We have the midnight madness shopping spree coming up on Friday night so it's gonna be fun. And exhausting.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about...The night of thanksgiving is the BEST time to do your x-mas shopping. The outlet mall next to T's mom's opens at midnight or at 11pm, depending on the store and people get in there around 10pm to wait in line to get into their fave stores. The stores have up to 70% off and stock up so it's filled with people, young and old, big and small. After that you go to the supermarkets which open at 2 and 4 am. Last year was obviously my first time. Me, T and JoeAnn walked to Woodbury Commons in a about -20 degrees C weather. They wanted to go to Coach which is a handbag store and get their discount in there. I waited on line with them for awhile but since it wasn't where I wanted to go I ditched them and went to shop on my own. It was SOOOO cold. This year I will bring warm clothes and bundle up like I'm going to Antarctica or something! We shopped until about 2am, then went back to T's mom's, slept for like an hour or 1,5h, got up and left for Kohl's. At this point JoeAnn's tournament endurance gave up and she stayed home. Me and T did some damage at Kohl's and then went to wait for Target to open. we waited at the parking lot for 30 min but then about 5min before the store opened we decided we were too tired to get in so we left. What a night! This year it'll be me, T, JoeAnn and Erin. Maybe other people will join us but those have committed to mad shopping! It'll be awesome! Only thing is, the Eagles are on at 8:15 and we need to go to Billy's house to watch it because T's mom doesn't have the channel.I don't know exactly how we will pull this one off but I'm sure it will be fun experience! We have decided to have a low key x-mas when it comes to our presents to each other just because we are coming to Finland in March and need to save for that. I have a feeling though that it might not work out...the low key part I mean!

the semester is almost over. I can't believe it! It's almost December already, I have few big papers to write, an exam and that's it! I have 3 courses next semester and then come May I will be graduating! It went quickly! Instead of 3 days I'll have school on 2 days and I'm hoping to work maybe 3 days a week. Do longer days than 5 hours. Soon I'll be applying for real jobs...eech! Scary in this economic environment! But at least there's gonna be a president who believes that the environment is important so hopefully there will be jobs out there...willing to hire me!

We have a big date night coming up tonight. Football and pizza! LOL! We are both too lazy to cook and our fridge is as empty as they come...I was supposed to go to the farmer's market yesterday and stock up on fruits and veggies but got caught up with my paper so I didn't go...which translates into no food. So instead of going out we will just order a pizza. I will need to check my fantasy football lineup one more time. I will have one player playing tonight. Hope he does well! PA Chiefs are going down this week!

That's it for now...I'll see how those articles I need to read for my Monday's class look like and might even do them. I could be back later or not.

Have a goof Thursday and weekend...my weekend starts in 5 hours!

I rest my case

I am, as we speak, in a classroom listening to a presentation of what essentially should be a quick overview of our class project. We are doing a sustainability plan for a city of 150000 in NJ and all the 17 people in this class have a different topic. I am now listening to one of the PhD students go through her WHOLE project...I believe we are now on slide #100 or so, I lost count 30 minutes ago. The paper that we write should be no more than 7 pages, double spaced. So when I say PhD students know no boundaries, I really mean it!

This particular person has a tendency to go over and beyond any limit set for a presentation or a project. When you should present the main points of your focus, she goes into details and expands it to other topics as well. When we are doing a summary of a chapter from a book about sustainability, she ads slides from Machu Picchu and how the Mayan culture disappeared. 10 slides turn into 100. Irrelevant. Doesn't matter. Loves her own voice.

Last year on one of the classes she spoke 30 min about a research topic when the time limit was set to 5min/person. Presentations went on for an hour when time was set to 20min...We all sigh when it's her turn to speak/present. It's a collective sigh. We all roll our eyes. We all know what's coming.

Languages

Languages are interesting. Without them it would be really difficult to communicate with others. And it always helps when you can speak more than one language. Obviously it helps that I speak English since T does not speak Finnish. But since we are going to Finland in March and since my family doesn't speak English all that much, T wants to learn some Finnish. I have thought her some random words and she is able to make random sentences out of those words, few times she has totally surprised me with what she's able to do. But Finnish language is one of the 5 most difficult languages in the world, or so I've heard. And even though there's only 5,2 million of us, there are still many dialects of Finnish. So should I teach her proper Finnish which might sound stuffy but she'd be able to maybe read some and understand it or should I teach her my dialect? It is also kind a hard because the more you are exposed to a language, the easier you'll pick up on it. Other than me and my conversations with my mom on the phone, T is not exposed to Finnish. She called Rosetta Stone and asked for a Finnish language DVD, but they said there's no demand for it which is why they don't have it. Offered her Swedish...

Right now I can list 8 different Finnish dialects but there are more than that. Different words are spelled and pronounced differently depending on where you are and which dialect you are speaking. Words might have a different meaning depending on where you come from and some words have different meanings depending on the context. Which makes a quite a good laugh sometimes when T wants to surprise me and uses one of those online dictionaries that "translate" words and sentences to English or to Finnish. One time she wanted to say something nice to me in Finnish, looked up the words in a dictionary and came up with something totally opposite! I was looking at the e-mail trying to figure out what it meant and then had to call her and ask. We got a good laugh out of it though.

We have tried to do a word of the day, maybe expand to sentence of the day but after few days I forget. I will try to do better though. It's important to her that she can say few sentences in Finnish and be polite when she talks with my family and friends so we will focus on that.

The dialects are not necessarily something that a foreigner can pick up on when they try to understand Finnish. Dialects differ in words, speed and tone. The word "I" is minä in Finnish. Where I come from we either use or mää. In other parts of the country it can be mie or something else. In Finnish language to, for, from etc are added to the word instead of being separate words so for me would be minulle or if you speak my dialect, mulle. From me would be minulta or multa. Multa also means the dirt you put your flowers in or grow your veggies in so you will need to be able to distinguish the difference between the meanings.

As far as verbs go, the verbs are used according to who is doing the action. When you say I run, you run, he runs, the only time the verb changes is with a third person. In Finnish that is not the case.

I minä
You sinä
he/she hän
we me
you te
they he

so if we use the verb to run or juosta, this is how it would go

I: minä juoksen
you: sinä juokset
he: hän juoksee
we: me juoksemme
you: te juoksette
they: he juoksevat.

Why all of a sudden a word that has no k's in it has k's, is one of the complexities of Finnish language that I learned when I was in maybe 7th grade but have forgot all about it. I know how to speak it so I don't need to know the rules. Lets just say that there are exceptions after exceptions and sometimes depending on the letters in the words, some will disappear and other will appear instead.

To go back to to, for, from, in etc... if we were to use my name

For Jenni: Jennille
From Jenni: Jenniltä
In Jenni: Jennissä
Jenni has...: Jennillä on
Don't look at Jenni: Jenniä.

If we used my brother's name Arttu
Artulle
Artulta
Artussa
Artulla
Arttua.

You see that in the first 4 cases there's a t missing in his name but in the 5th one there's 2. Also, instead of ending with ä it ends with a. One of the things that have rules to remember but because I speak the language I know when it goes with ä and when with a.

I now finish my Finnish lesson. Gotta do some work...or homework. Later

This weekend

what was supposed to be a relaxed and quiet and no-plans weekend turned out to be quite eventful. I am sure you all have read from T's blog that we now have a cleaner come in once a month. Friday was the first time they came in and boy was it, how should I put it? Interesting... First of all, I don't have school or work on Fridays so I was home the whole day. I caught up with my shows, did some laundry, hang out with the cats, did little homework and just took it easy. Then around 5:30-6pm T texts me that she's on a long line and probably won't make it in time for 7:30 when the cleaning lady will be coming...Oh boy, I never met the woman because when T interviewed her I was in school and didn't have a chance of meeting her and then the whole "You a lesbian?" thing...so I was little nervous. T asked me if I was OK if she told them to come early if they could since I would be home anyway...I said OK. T tells me they're on their way and so I open the garage door for them to get in...I wait and I wait and no-one shows up. Then it's 7:30 and T comes home. She calls the woman to ask where she is and turns out she's in traffic.
Then she got lost.
Then she got lost again.
T's on the phone with her trying to get her to our place. The gate has been closed for about a month now so visitors need to enter our number in the keypad and call us when they arrive so we can let them in. Since T is on the phone with them, they can't call her so she's spelling my last name to them. It took almost 15 minutes for her to trying to direct them through the phone before she finally decided to walk to the gate and open it herself. You could see the smoke coming out of her ears! We were frustrated! They were 45min late. Once they arrived they were all apologetic and nice so we couldn't stay mad for them for long. That wasn't the best first impression though. We left them at our house and went for dinner. We ate at our local fave Italian place, Johnny Carino's, cheap, good and big portions and tried to relax. Our waiter though was another blood pressure riser! Slow and didn't know her menu or desserts. How can you not know your Italian desserts if you work in an Italian restaurant?

After dinner we went back home where the cleaners had just finished with upstairs and were half way through with downstairs. Bailey was nowhere to be seen but Sox had been in the midst of things the whole time supervising that it was done properly and that everything was OK. The cleaners did a good job and we decided to have them come over once a month to do the cleaning we don't want to do ourselves.

On Saturday morning we were sitting in our living room looking at each other and not knowing what to do. We usually do the cleaning on Saturday mornings but since that had been done the day before, we didn't have to bother. T had gone to the hairdresser earlier that morning and we had thought about going to march to protest Proposition 8 in Upper Montclair but since it was raining and T had just had her hair colored and I had my foot in a boot (which is open and not a good wear in the rain) we decided to go do a little shopping instead! I had some things I needed but wasn't in the mood for a mall so we thought we'd go to Woodbury Commons and see what we can find from there. T called her mom and we made lunch plans. Her mom was also babysitting for Carly that day so we wanted to see her as well. We went to T's brothers Billy's house, passed Carly around from one lap to another and then left for lunch. After lunch we did our shopping, I did some damage at Gap and Aeropostale and then went to T's mom's house. Her other brother Johnny and his wife JoeAnn was there so we hang out for a few before they had to leave. We played with Carly but then decided to leave when Billy called and said there was a tornado warning in effect until 9pm that night. We did not wanna wait around for it to pass especially since we had plans with T's cousin Celeste so we left. The whole day had been exceptionally warm, it was about 20 degrees Celsius by her moms which explains the tornado watch. When we got home it was raining like crazy and there was a tornado watch in our neck of the woods too so T called Celeste to tell her to stay in. So we had a rain-check (hehe). We'll watch sex and the City another time.

Instead we caught up with Desperate Housewives. We had 3 episodes we hadn't seen and we watched them all. There are so many shows and sports on on Sunday nights that we don't have time to watch DH or Dexter or Brothers and Sisters...And since DH is on demand we can watch it anytime so it's the last on our list. Football usually takes over. Being a part of a fantasy football league makes it even more interesting. We sit in front of our TV, both of us have our computers on and I check the FF scores while T keeps us informed on the Eagles games. Being in the NY market area means that we get to see both the Jets and the Giants but unfortunately the Eagles are not on often. It only happens when they either play one of the prime time games or play against one of those teams. We hate the Giants and since Brett Favre came to the Jets I have not been able to cheer for them anymore so the first two games are kind of a bore in a way. And for some reason Eagles always play at the same time as the Giants so chances of them being on TV in our area are very slim. I have seen more Steelers, Chargers, Colts and Browns games that I care for! and it seems that they are always playing either on Sunday or Monday night, recently also on Thursday so they are force fed to you! ARGH! We want Eagles...Although yesterday...good lord! They tied the Bengals. TIED!!! That hasn't happened since 2002 and they give you 15 min overtime to score! What more can you ask for?!?!?!?

On Saturday night T got sick. She's now swallowing sandpaper, looks like she has a fever, has a headache, aches all over and overall is feeling lousy. It just came on out of nowhere. Saturday during the day she was fine but when we were watching DH it just hit her like a ton of bricks. We didn't really have anything for cold in our house so I was just giving her tee with honey. Poor thing was laying on the couch all day yesterday. She tried to help me with cooking and stuff but I told her to rest. now she's at work feeling like crap. I hope she gets better soon and I really hope I won't get it from her. ((((T))))

Anyway...I need to go do some work now...Later!

Narsisism

Narsisism can be a good thing in small dosages. You just have to know where the line goes. Have you ever felt like the story you are reading or the TV show/movie you're watching is speaking to you. You can relate to it. It resembles your life, your experiences but you know it's not about you. It can either be the past experiences or what you're going through right now. An example from my life would be the show "The L word". I remember few years ago when the L word came to Finnish TV and I saw the first commercials. They were selling it to us with Jenny and Marina. I was like "oh, what's this?" As I watching it something inside me started to realize that I could really relate to it. I could relate to Jenny's struggles. Not just because of the name obviously! Going through life with this weird feeling like I'm fooling myself but can't put my finger on it where and how exactly. Seeing Jenny and Marina opened the bottle for me and I realized that how I had lived my life before was really not me. I was fooling myself if I thought that prince charming was out there somewhere and our paths would cross one day. I realized my prince was actually a princess and by what you could say was a once in a lifetime chances, I found her. Her name is T but enough about that. Jenny's struggles to realize who she was spoke to me like nothing else before that. I could relate to that. But I knew it was NOT about me. The story wasn't mine even though it resembled mine. What I'm trying to say is that even though you read something that resembles your situation, it most likely is NOT about you. And being able to distinquish those 2...well, some people don't have that skill!

Shoutout to Elviira for you-know-what!

Yesterday T had a doctor's appointment in the morning and then the rest of the day she was working from home so she was already here when I came home from work. It was a nice change since we haven't really seen eachother too much earlier this week. We had some dinner but neither of us was feeling it and were craving for something sweet. In a household of 2 women that time of the month can be challenging. So we decided to go to our nearest A&P, a grocery store and load up on sweets. I bought cocoa and ice cream and T bought donuts and a danish. I'm not fan of those donuts so I won't be touching them but there might not be a lot left of the danish when T comes home tonight. I might have had 2 pieces yesterday and 2 this morning for breakfast...but who's counting anyway?!?! The bad thing is, when I get the sweet cravings, or cravings in general, there's nothing in the USA that can help me because I usually crave salmiakki or other candy only found in Finland...I would kill for a bag of candy from Makuuni! hint hint. Merkkarit, pantteri, salmikki pullonavaajat, aakkoset, punaset apinat, mini aakkoset, tatit...OMG, I miss Finnish candy!!! And not just salmiakki...there are way too many great candys in Finland. I will be bringing home a luggage full of candy when I visit in March.

Today I am catching up with my shows and hanging out with the cats. We have a date night tonight with T and her cousin might be coming to visit us tomorrow. We'll watch Sex and the City movie and hang out. Sunday will be spent on watching football and then next week it's back to school. It's almost thanksgiving! Great food, great company and most importantly, great SHOPPING!

Donut

I am craving for a donut. I was able to resist going to Dunkin Donut this morning when I had 20 minutes to spare between getting off the bus and the train leaving but I decided to be a good girl and didn't. It didn't last for too long though. Once I got to work, my friend Medea was going to get some lunch and I buckled. I have to have a donut now!Now I'm just waiting...It won't be as good as DD but it will have to do.

Today is my priority day to sign up for classes for Spring semester. I already know which ones I'm choosing, now it's just waiting until 1pm when my time starts.I will have classes on Wednesdays and Thursdays and I'm hoping to change my work schedule as well. Maybe do 2 full 8-hour days and 1 4-hour day. We will see how that goes though. Unfortunately it's not all about me around here...

We had a fun weekend shopping and entertaining. On Saturday we cleaned the house a little and then got some shopping done. I needed a winter jacket for occasions where you need to wear something other than a ski jacket. I had found one at Kohl's but wasn't sure about the price so we went to Burlington Coat Factory and I found one. It was little less expensive so that was a good thing. After that we went to Home Goods and got some stuff for our kitchen. The place was a mess and we came home with less than what we might have had the place been any more organized. We had a quick lunch at Subway before heading to Bed, Bath and Beyond. I had seen a bowls that I wanted for us to put our fruits in instead of them kinda being where-ever and we come up with some more stuff as well. We also went to a store called "5 below" where T found her all time favorite lollipops. I bought few socks, some marshmallows and printed tissues. We thought we were done at this point but no. T asked me if I was up for Kohl's and checking out their towels so that's where we ended up. 8 bath towels, 10 hand towels and few wash cloths later we emerged from Kohl's. Yeah, good times!

Few hours later T's cousin Erin and her boyfriend Scott came over. We watched some TV, drank few drinks and then decided it would be a good idea to play WII bowling! We played 3 rounds of which I won 2 and came second in the third one! (On a side note, Medea just brought me the donut...mmmmmm) I rock at drunken WII bowling! Scott and Erin stayed for the night and the next morning T wanted pancakes so I made the mix and Erin made the pancakes. They left around 1, just before the first football came of the day started and after that me and T turned into cooking machines! We made veggie mix, green beans, salad, garlic fried shrimp, chicken legs and goulash. I am tired just thinking about it! Around 6 I made salmon for dinner. After that it was just waiting for the last game of the day, Eagles and Giants. Eagles lost by 5 but few ref calls were a little questionable.I guess it doesn't hurt to be the reigning champ, the refs look at you a little differently. At this point my fantasy team NJ Finns was loosing to Queeds by 15 points. I had one more player on Monday night and he was done on Sunday. My WR Boldin came through for me and I beat his ass. It was close but I did it and now next up is Hoosier Mama who I tied last time around. I'm confident I can beat her. We will be wiser on Monday.

It's time to sign up for classes now. And maybe do some work also. I'll see how I feel about that. Later

This & That

I'm soooo tired. I haven't been sleeping well and I have no idea why. Wednesday nights are especially bad when I come home at 11 and my brain is still wired up and doesn't shot off so I'm having difficulties to sleep. Once I finally do fall asleep it's 6:30 and I need to get up. It's even more difficult because I don't need to wake up before 8am on any other morning during the week so it's a double as bad.

It's now 2:18 and I have drank all my coffee from my penguin thermos. There is no more coffee left. Thursday is the only day when this happens. I usually still have coffee left around 7pm when I'm at class and more often than not I have a cup or a half left when I get home. And this thermos really isn't all that big so it's not like I even am drinking a loads of coffee. I can barely keep my eyes open and there's still 2 hours left at work. I have some vanilla coke left which will at least give me some intake of caffeine. I wanted to do some homework but I can't focus. Doing presentations while focusing-impaired is NOT a good idea.

I had my initial evaluation for physical therapy yesterday. He was interviewing me, asking me all the background questions etc and tomorrow will be the first actual session. The first thing he said to me when he walked into his office was " I hate your shirt"! LOL! I was wearing my Eagles tee and he was a Giants fan so that came before hellos or anything else. He's a Yankees fan too but I won't hold it against him if he can help me with my foot. I think we will start with ultrasound. Will tell you all about it tomorrow.

History in the making

I'm so happy to have seen what went down yesterday. Barack Obama was elected to be the next president of the United States and judging by people's reaction, I'm not alone! The streets were filled with people celebrating, crying, smiling, laughing. It looked like a huge burden had been lifted from their shoulders and it was time to celebrate. There is hope after all. The change is coming. In some respect, change already came. As for me, I feel a sense of relief, hope and happiness. I feel like I can respect the people of this country, respect the country again. The past 8 years have really made America into an international laughing stock and now it has and will gain some of that respect back. The land of dreams can once again be just that and people from around the world can look up to America and expect great, better things once again.

When I was a kid, I used to love watching American shows. The way of life was different, yet still somehow same as in Finland. What was fashionable here would soon follow in Finland. Some things we got, some we just dreamed about. This was all based on TV series and movies. Once I started to understand anything about politics, war, human rights etc, and especially once George W. Bush was elected to be the president and then re-elected, I lost some of that sense of awe, the respect I had for this country. I'm the first to admit I wasn't always able to separate the people of this country from the politics but after having T in my life together with the many wonderful people I have met through her and since I moved here, I have come to realize that the majority of this country is really not behind Bush, nor are they bad people. Yesterday just re-enforced that notion. Seeing the joy on people's face and how relieved they were has restored my respect for this country. I think America has taken a giant step forward and I cannot wait to be part of the change.

So far in my life things have sort of fallen into place. When changes needed to be made, they happened just in time. I have been able to get what I wanted, go where I wanted and things have worked out for me. One huge obstacle on that path was this election. To me it was about gay/civil rights against not having them, environmental protection against exploitation of it, live and let live against I want to rule over your every move and WE WON. Obama hasn't exactly been advocating for my rights or our rights but he was clearly the better overall candidate. This will hopefully mean more environmentally friendly atmosphere in this country resulting in better chances for me to find a job. It is HUGE for me and T. It is difficult to plan your future together when you don't have the stability that other have. Things that are available to American gay couples or straight Americans are not available to us. A House, kids, marriage/civil union/domestic partnership. Because I'm not American those things are not something we can have right now. Barack Obama as a president is a step to the right direction.

I have more respect for John McCain now than ever before. I do not agree with his values or his politics but hearing his speech yesterday and seeing him on SNL, he has my respect. I'm glad he's not the next president though. I don't understand republican politics and ideas. On one hand they want less governmental meddling with the business side, less regulations and free hands for the corporations to do what they want but on the other hand they want to tell the individuals what to do and what is right and wrong. They want to take away your right to love whoever you want, they want to ban you from having abortion and they want to shove their religion down your throat. Don't get it at all but right now I don't even need to.

As great as it is to have Obama be elected to be the next president and the democrats to get more seats in the senate and ruling this country, it looks like gay rights lost in some fronts. Proposition 8 in California, to ban gay marriage and to have a constitutional amendment that states marriage as between a woman and a man looks to be going through. All the votes have not been tallied yet but it does not look good. Arizona and Florida had those bans go through. The land of the free is not free for everyone.

Enough about politics for now. I have a physical therapy session to go to. Later.

Obama for President

Today's the day when the American people will make history.
Today's the day when they will elect the first black president for this country.
Today's the day when human rights and civil rights will win.
Today's the day when religious fanatics lose.
Today's the day when the American people together with the rest of the world can put the past 8 years behind them and focus on brighter future.
Today's the day when this country will get a leader, not a puppet.
Today's the day when my chances of getting a job after graduation will increase.
Today's the day when my future with T will get easier.
Today's the day when USA will take the next step and choose Barack Obama for president.
This of course if all goes well.

T woke up at 5:45am this morning to go do her civic duty and vote. We thought it would be easier and safer to vote in the morning rather than after work in the evening. This is too important election to chance it and you never know how the traffic will be coming home so we wanted to make sure she had her chance to vote. I stayed in bed. Can't vote so what's the point?
I don't have a class tonight so we will have an evening together. It's nice to have dinner together this early during the week because the first chance we usually have is on Thursday night. I'm sure we will be watching how the election is going.

To other topics...My New Jersey Finns, my fantasy football team beat Andrea's Virginia Sammy's by 3 points. I was a little bit nervous when yesterday's game started because I only had 12 point lead and had 2 players left against Andrea's 3 but thankfully they didn't have a good game. In fact the game was really boring. 3 and out both ways. Field goals...blah blah. But then I thought that it was actually good, the less they scored, the less chances the V Sammy's had catching me. So it worked well. This week I'll play the Queeds...last time I kicked the crap out of him. Hopefully this will be the same. Sorry Brad! I'm in second place right now and I intend to stay there! Gotta love FF! Too bad there's no money involved.

Gotta go scoop the litter before heading to work. Later!

p.s. keep your thumbs up for Barack Obama!

Physical therapy

So I finally called and made an appointment for my first physical therapy session. It will be this Wednesday at 11am. I do have a feeling that there really isn't much they can do for me as my ankle and foot and toe are still hurting, swollen and tender to touching so how making them hurt even more is beyond me but I will try. I hope this will help but I'm sceptical. Good thing about this is that the place is on my bus route to school so I can get there by bus, they are open from early morning till 7pm so I can fit them into my schedule and don't need anybody to take me. Bad thing about all the doctor's visits and MRI's are that I needed T to take me which meant she had to take a day off from work. It's awesome to spend time with her during to week but less so when it's spent in a doctor's office.

T's cousin Celeste, the original Slowski (comes from a Comcast tv ad with a turtle couple who's last name is Slowski. I called Celeste slowski after she had her knee surgery...look who's laughing now?!) sent me her Doctor's information and I will be seeking a second opinion on my foot. There's been no progress made, the crutches didn't help much, this boot I'm wearing now is not meant for "healing" my foot but for situations where crutches are just too difficult to use and no pain medication, steroids or antibiotics helped so what should I do? None of the Doctor's have done any blood work. If it was a insect/spider bite, would it even show anymore? If it's an infection, it would show on the lab results. X-ray's were perfect. MRI "suggested it could be stress fracture" but being off of it for over a month did nothing to cure it. Now it's "pain in joints". The swelling has moved to my ankle which my doctor said is because of I was walking funny on it for the past 2 months. Awesome. It should hurt, not swell like a balloon! And the skin shedding...and itching. Now it's itching. It wasn't when this first started but sure as hell is now. Icing doesn't really help. Only thing helping with the swelling, temporarily, is elevating it. In the morning when it has been on a pillow for the night, the swelling is down. after walking on it for few it goes up again. I'm so tired of this. I want it to end. Soon there will be rain, snow and ice and then what will I do? Ice skate on the ice with 1 foot and crutches? Cannot wait! This will be fun!

I was being productive today at work. Not so much on working but with doing school stuff. 2 out of 3 school related things I have for this week are done. That's good since tomorrow I can do the third at work and then focus on the election. Everybody who is eligible to vote in USA, please go and vote for Obama.

Later.
